Tying The Knot with Red Sox Nation!!

If the groom-to-be is a huge Red Sox fan, than what better groom's cake than a Fenway Park cake!!
I've known this bride since high school, and I was so excited when she asked me to make her wedding and groom's cakes!
The bride wanted a simple wedding cake with the fluffy meringue-like buttercream texture. I also made gumpaste figurines of the bride, groom, and their dog as the topper on the cake! So adorable!!  Two of the tiers were white almond cake with almond cream and two of the tiers were lemon pound cake with lemon buttercream.

The Fenway Park cake was such a hit with the groom and his family, since most of them are from the Boston area and huge fans of the team.  The baseball park was carved out of chocolate cake with french chocolate buttercream. I used a brick texture on modeling chocolate for the outside walls. The fans in the stadium are blue, red, and white sprinkles. All of the billboards represent something important to the groom....the college and med-school he attended, the US Air Force, and some of his favorites things- McDonald's, Dunkin' Donuts, and Coca-Cola!

The Green Monster. Boston is beating New York 4 to 3. Alex Rodriguez is up to bat with 2 strikes, 0 balls, and 2 outs in the 9th inning.

Birthday for a Fashionista!

This cake was made for my friend Jenn's birthday party. She really loves fashion and has a blog,, where she shares all of her secrets and advice for DIY fashion.
I was having trouble coming up with a design idea for the cake because there are so many different things I could have made....a shoe box, shopping bags, a jewelry box, etc. However, her super sweet and observant boyfriend pointed me to this blog post of hers, I had never heard of this "ikat fabric" because I'm really terrible at staying up with fashion trends....I still have clothes from high school hanging in my closet!  I immediately knew I had to use this for the cake design! Here is a picture of the design "inspiration".

The purple ikat print was handpainted with food gel and water on white fondant.

The green sashes and ties were made out of fondant and the 'J' initial was made out of gumpaste and supported by wire.

The top tier was white almond cake with lemon buttercream and the bottom tier was white almond cake with strawberry chiffon.

I also made these white almond petit fours to go along with the cake.

The birthday party was a wine tasting competition. The bottle labels were covered and numbered 1-7. Everyone had to taste and guess which number was which type of red wine, i.e. chardonnay, shiraz, malbec. It was so much fun! I really love red wine but am obviously terrible at knowing which is which...I didn't get any right, haha!

Here's the birthday girl with her cake!

...and, wearing her matching Ikat scarf!

I hope you had an amazing birthday Jenn!
