Margaritaville!

I can't help but think of beaches, flip-flops, and margaritas during summer time, and no one describes this better than Jimmy Buffett!
I made this cake for a surprise 60th birthday last year and it is in my top 5 favorite cakes of all time. The birthday boy loves Jimmy Buffett, so I portrayed several of Buffett's hit songs on this cake.

At the base of the cake, there is a beach with shark fins in the water..."You got fins to the left, fins to the right...". Above the ocean, sitting on the wood deck, are 3 Parrots - all of whom are drinking margaritas or beer. These parrots are often seen on Jimmy Buffett Margaritaville t-shirts.
The tier above the parrots has a clock reading 5:00, from "...It's 5 o'clock somewhere...." There are hibiscus and plumeria sugar flowers surrounding this tier.

This side of the cake continues the bar scene with the parrots. There are palm trees and a directional sign reading Parrotheads, Happy Hour 24/7, Tiki Bar, and Washed Away.
The above tier has the lyrics, "...Blew out my flip-flop, Stepped on a pop top..." The blown-out flip flop and the pop top are just below the lyric sign.

This side of the cake has a " No Shoes, No Shirt, No Problem" sign and a surf board.  Above are the lyrics for "...Searchin' for my lost shaker of salt..." And, of course, there is a salt shaker, made of gumpaste.

On this side of the cake, there are pink flamingo signs and palm trees - to continue the bar scene. There are also the song lyrics "...Changes in latitudes, Changes in attitudes...", along with a compass.

And my absolute favorite part of the cake - The Cheeseburger in Paradise!  "...I like mine with lettuce and tomato, Heinz 57 and french fried potatoes, Big kosher pickle..."
On top of the cheeseburger is, of course, a frozen margarita with a straw and a lime slice.

I had so much fun making this cake. Everyone at the party got a kick out of all the details and song references.

All I have to say is...
"...Pour me something tall and strong, Make it a hurricane, Before I go insane, It's only half past 12, But I don't care, It's 5 o'clock somewhere..."
